*Leonhard Seppala drove 170 miles (274 kilometers) from Nome to Shaktoolik, from January 27th to the 31st, on his planned run to Nulato to meet the antitoxin. In addition to his return trip of 91 miles (146 km), from Shaktoolik to Golovin, that represents a grand total of 261 miles (420 km) covered by his team. That constitutes nearly five times the total distance covered by any other team. On one day, he and his team covered 84 miles (135 km), which is still much farther than any other team in the relay.
Total miles of the serum run: 674 (1085 kilometers)
Total travel time: 127 hours, 30 minutes (5˝ days...most of it in the dark)
